Spokes Youth Advisory Board

The Spokes Youth Advisory Board is Youth Speaks Seattle's central decision-making body. Spokes members, ages 13-21, learn leadership, camaraderie, and responsibility through the development and production of events and workshops. Spokes also serve as the organization's representatives, participating in events, workshops, and encouraging youth to express themselves in writing.

Spokes members meet weekly, the group is free to join, and students can get community service or internship credit as well as one-on-one poetry mentorship. Five positions currently available. Contact Program Director for details.

Meet the Spokes!

Hollis Wong-WearHollis Wong-Wear, Junior Mentor, is a hugger, a singer, a student, a rapper, a poet, an organizer, a daughter, a scholar, a sister, a teacher and a texter. She hails from the Bay Area (WHAT WHAT) where she was born and raised, and was a member of the 2005 SF Youth Speaks Slam Team. Then, she came up to Seattle, met her family, and was on the 2006 Youth Speaks Seattle Slam Team. Now, she's a junior mentor at Youth Speaks Seattle (where she gets to kick it with the freshest kids on the block), a history major at Seattle University, and 1/2 of Canary Sing. She's trying to speak Spanish better and be on the computer less. However, she clocks in at an impressive 92 WPM!
